How we build the holiday calendar
Is It Fiesta? separates official holiday data from editorial Fiesta guides, so you can see what is authoritative, what is explanatory, and where coverage ends.

Official calendar data
Holiday dates and public-holiday scope come from official calendars, chiefly the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE), Spain’s official state gazette. The annual labour calendar establishes national, autonomous-community, and autonomous-city holidays.
For Catalonia’s municipal coverage, we use the Generalitat de Catalunya’s official open-data publication. Imported records retain their source URL, document identifier, retrieval time, and parser version so the published dataset can be reviewed.
Fiesta guides
Fiesta articles are editorial guides about the meaning, history, and observance of Spanish holidays. They are researched separately from the calendar data and do not turn a cultural tradition into a claim that every workplace or region observes a public holiday.
When an article describes a date or public-holiday status, the relevant official calendar is the authority. Articles may explain traditions and context that are not official calendar records.
Coverage boundaries
The site currently publishes national, autonomous-community, autonomous-city, and selected Catalonian municipal coverage. A place or year is not authoritative here merely because it appears in a search or in an article; unsupported local coverage is left out or labelled as unavailable.
Holiday status can vary by year and jurisdiction. Shop opening hours, school calendars, employer policies, and local events can follow different rules and are outside the promise of this calendar.
Review and corrections
This page was last reviewed on 10 July 2026. Source imports are checked for required provenance, jurisdiction scope, dates, and reconciliation errors before records are published. Editorial guides are reviewed for clear separation between sourced facts and cultural description.
